our present to us

We finally spent our kicker check and the money from our grandparents (THANK YOU!) and bought ourselves a 42" LCD HDTV. We are liking it a lot! Here Curtis is showing off his boxing skills on the Wii (a Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary present from Paul's parents).

Christmas Party with friends

Friends from church hosted a Young Adult Christmas party. Curtis was fascinated by their tree and their train that traveled around it. This is a torture game. You begin rolling a die, and if you get a 6, you have to put on a hat and gloves, then begin opening this stiffly reinforced present. Everyone keeps rolling and if you get a six, you steal the hat and gloves and start unwrapping. Very aggressive game!

My Little Chef

Curtis decided he wanted eggs. So I put 2 in a pot to hard boil. No, he wanted to hammer (crack) them. So he did and we put them in the pan to fry. No, "tir" (stir), so he stirred them. Then I realized I had the wrong burner on. But we got it together and he is scarfin them down.

and yes, there's a brownie on his plate.

Karen did get new mattresses, but we took apart her bunk beds and split it with Curtis. Please excuse her room... she thinks it's clean!

I especially like Curtis' cuz it looks like fencing. Fits his theme, don't you think?

Random Photo Update

Praise God.... My Dad is cancer free!! His surgery was a success! He got the 'all clear' on Monday (9 days post surgery) and is now in recovery mode. YAY!

Today and tomorrow our church is hosting a Rock-A-Thon to raise money for a family whose 5 year old son has leukemia. Karen and I did a 2-hour shift today and will have another 2-hour shift tomorrow. She has raised $110 so far!

Here are random pictures of the kids.

Reality

It finally hit me last night; at 11:00 no less. My Dad has cancer. I've known since April, and been 'okay' with it. I wasn't worried since the doctor feels surgery will get it all and chemotherapy won't be needed. But Dad's surgery date is next Friday and it all came together in my brain while I laid in bed. My Dad could die. The chances are next to nil, but it's still an odd. And yes, he'll die some day, but I hope and pray it's years down the road. He's only 60. The scary part for me is that both his Dad and his Father in law have also had prostate cancer. His Dad died from it; FIL is a survivor. My nieghbor, George S., is dying from several cancers. He's home now with hospice is have a shadow of a man he was a year ago. My childhood girlfriend Juli died 5 years ago from breast cancer. CANCER SUCKS! It affects so many people directly.
Sometimes it's like my Dad who looks good and healthy. You can't tell by looking at him that he's 'sick'. But you look at my neighbor and you hurt for him and his bride of 50 years. I'm so thankful they are Christians. I'm thankful Juli is with Jesus and my grandfather, too.
So pray for my Daddy as he prepares for surgery and then goes in next Friday, the 12th. He has 5 beautiful grandchildren he wants to see grow up. He's only been married to my Mom for 37 years and wants a few more. And I want my Daddy. I'm selfish, but that's human nature.
